Seeing the world with imagination

My name is Ron Loe and I live outside Raleigh, North Carolina with my wife (Jodi), spirit of my dog (Hallie), and cat (Drizzle). They're the ones pictured above. Drizzle liked to sleep with Hallie a lot but spends her time with me after Hallie's death. (My golden girl above passed away on July 2nd. She was diagnosed with advanced Heart and Lung Cancer on the first and had such difficulty breathing when she laid down that night that we took her pain away the next morning. She will be sorely missed. Hallie is present, in spirit, in the pages of Forecast.) For an update on Drizzle, she now (January 2010)  I guess I'm almost as good a heater as a Golden Retriever.

I have a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and work as a professional Civil Engineer.

My favorite authors are Dean Koontz, Stephen King, and Michael Connelly. I enjoy Science Fiction, Horror, Comedy, and Mystery/Suspense in no particular order.

I have always loved to read and dreamed of writing. Almost ten years ago, I decided to quit dreaming and put my own stories on paper. Two of the stories began to write themselves and went in directions I hadn't planned until they became full length novels. I hope you will enjoy my first to be sent to a publisher,  The Seventh Sense. You may learn more about it on my "New Books" page. If it's too expensive, don't worry. I'll republish it in a few years at a much more reasonable cost.

I believe fiction should be presented in such a way that the reader doesn't have to suspend belief in science or the universe in general to enjoy the book. It's okay if a writer creates fantastic situations as long as some sort of explanation within the tale allows the reader to mesh reality with the author's conception. It also grates on my nerves when time passes in a story (especially at the movies) at a strange rate. Like when a person walks into a building around midnight, nobody is home at their destination, and it's close to noon as they leave the building.

I've decided to self-publish my next novel because of the severe over-pricing of the first one (The Seventh Sense) with Publish America. I don't recommend anybody using them that has any sense (no pun intended). Their pricing all but ensures that only an author or the author's friends will ever purchase a copy. By self-publishing, I will retain all publishing rights while selling my novels and pursuing a relationship with a literary agency. I will always have the option of signing with a publisher. To be honest, I write for my own enjoyment and the thrill of others who read what I've written, but it would be great one day to be able to say "I'm a writer" because that's most of what I do for a living.
